Principals Back To School Announcement!

Welcome to the 2026–2027 School Year

Dear Belmont High School Students, Families, Staff, and Community,

It is with great pride and gratitude that I welcome you to the 2026–2027 school year at Belmont High School. As I begin my third year serving as principal, I remain honored to lead this extraordinary school community and humbled by the opportunity to work alongside such dedicated students, families, staff, alumni, and community partners.

Over the past two years, we have worked together to strengthen the systems that support teaching, learning, and student success. Through our collective commitment to continuous improvement, Belmont has made meaningful progress academically, operationally, and culturally. Most notably, our students demonstrated measurable growth on the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) in both English Language Arts and Mathematics—the first academic gains in several years. We also achieved significant improvement on our i-Ready assessments, reflecting stronger instructional practices and increased student learning across our campus.

These accomplishments are a testament to the resilience, dedication, and collaboration of our entire Belmont community. While we celebrate these successes, we recognize that our work is far from complete. Excellence is not a destination—it is a continuous pursuit.

As we move forward this year, our focus remains clear:

  • Provide high-quality instruction in every classroom that prepares all students for college, career, and life.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued, respected, and connected.
  • Increase student engagement, attendance, and academic achievement through high expectations and meaningful support.
  • Strengthen partnerships with families and the community, recognizing that student success is built through collaboration.
  • Prepare every student for their future by expanding opportunities through rigorous academics, career pathways, leadership experiences, athletics, visual and performing arts, and extracurricular activities.

For more than 100 years, Belmont High School has proudly served the Los Angeles community. Today, we continue that legacy by providing students with exceptional opportunities through programs such as our Nurse Academy, Computer New Media Drone Program, Automotive Maintenance Program, Advanced Placement courses, Career Technical Education pathways, athletics, and numerous student organizations. We are equally proud of our alumni, whose continued support helps create opportunities for future generations of Sentinels.

To our students, I encourage you to make the most of every opportunity this year. Attend school every day, arrive on time, challenge yourself academically, become involved in campus activities, uphold our Student Dress Code, and demonstrate respect for yourself and others. Build meaningful relationships with your teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff—they are here because they believe in your potential and are committed to helping you succeed.

To our families, thank you for entrusting us with your children. Your partnership is essential, and we look forward to working closely with you throughout the year. Together, we can ensure every Belmont student reaches their fullest potential.

At Belmont High School, we believe that every student can achieve at high levels when provided with excellent instruction, strong relationships, clear expectations, and unwavering support. Together, we will continue building a culture of excellence where every student is challenged, every student is supported, and every student belongs.

Thank you for choosing Belmont High School.

Welcome to another exciting year of learning, growth, and achievement.

Once a Sentinel, Always a Sentinel.

Sincerely,

Dr. Solorzano
